The story
Fred LaRiviere grew up on the steep, rocky terrain of Utah. At ten he was riding lines on the old Red Bull Rampage course in Virgin, Utah, and Pinkbike, Teton Gravity Research and Commencal shared the footage with riders around the world. A year later he won a USA Cycling Downhill National Championship.
As a junior he took on the UCI Downhill World Cup as a privateer, racing Les Gets, Val di Sole, La Thuile, Pal Arinsal, Lake Placid and Mont-Sainte-Anne. Injuries and mechanicals cost him the results his speed deserved in those seasons. They also taught him how to come back.
2026 was his first year in Pro Men, and he spent it moving up the order. He took a pro win at Sundance, finished 4th at Solitude just 2.7% off the winning time, and finished the season 3rd overall in the Mountain States Cup Pro series.
Off the bike, Fred is a founding member of Utah's Outlaw MTB team. He still coaches its younger riders at camps, clinics and training days, and he helps build and maintain local trails. A lot of the kids racing in Utah today learned something from him.
